Everything we do in life is shaped by our genes, even before we are born our genetic code is determining the colour of our eyes, the shape of our body, our memory, our intelligence, our venerability to disease. This is well before our parents and teachers have the option to start moulding us. Once born our physical environment, our life opportunities, our nutrition and indeed every thought that we have is programming our genetic coding and our future.

Every cell in your body contains your genetic code and one of the greatest discoveries of our time is the understanding that your mind has the ability to influence your genetics. To clarify, this means your mind can turn genes on and off. Some genes have limited windows of time to allow change and others are operative through your life, making hormones and enzymes, building proteins to digest food, replacing cells and repairing damage etc. These genetic codes can be influenced.

The simplest demonstration that we do influence our genes by thoughts, is the Placebo effect, in which an inert substance can behave like a real drug. We are given a placebo pain killer, the mere belief in the power of this pill causes us to generate real endogenous molecules which actually do block pain. This proves that genetic machinery can be turned on my thought.

Following hypnosis scientific studies have shown a range of rapid genetic and molecular differences including gene regulating machinery and reduced levels of pro-inflammatory genes, which in turn correlated with faster physical recovery from a stressful situation. These studies were endorsed by the American Heart Association as a preventative intervention.

The gene programs are contained within the nucleus of the cell and you can rewrite those genetic programs through changing the blood chemistry. For us to heal we must change the way we think. Your subconscious mind contains your deepest beliefs. It is these beliefs that cast the deciding vote.

We are programmed to believe that we are the victims of our genetics when now science is telling us that this is not true. Positive thinking and reciting affirmations doesn't always bring about the results we hope for. People are aware of their conscious beliefs and behaviours but seem oblivious to the fact that their subconscious beliefs are 50,000 times more powerful and operating up to 99% of our body programs.

Your subconscious beliefs are either working for you or against you and the truth is that you are not controlling your life because your subconscious mind supersedes all conscious control. When you are consciously saying your affirmations and saying you're healthy there may be invisible subconscious programs sabotaging you.
